Since 2015, Roberto Jiménez has been running the El Bueyerito micro-mill, working alongside around 50 small producers in an under-explored region of Costa Rica. Although they’ve worked hard to improve the quality of their coffee, a budget crisis in the local cooperatives drastically reduced production and forced many farmers to sell below cost.
To support them, the Planting Costa Rica initiative launched a Kickstarter project, giving the community a chance to recover and enter the specialty coffee market — a story that has become a symbol of resilience and local development.
