The Mutitu processing station, established in 1963, is located on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya in the renowned Kirinyaga region and serves local smallholder farmers. With over 1,250 members, this station promotes sustainable practices such as efficient wastewater management and reforestation.
The coffee washing process involves controlled fermentation of the coffee beans for 24-48 hours, followed by cleaning the beans of mucilage and subjecting them to a final wash in clean water, a crucial step for developing complex flavors and vibrant acidity.
